Choosing to pursue my PhD at the University of Surrey was a natural and straightforward decision. Having already experienced the University's exceptional support and opportunities during my MSc studies...I was excited to continue my academic journey here.

The University of Surrey has a longstanding history of pioneering research into tuberculosis, led by a wealth of experienced scientists. Not only does the University have the specialised laboratories required to handle a category 3 pathogen, but it also has state-of-the-art equipment available to postgraduate students.

I studied at Surrey for my MSci in Biochemistry, where my project focused on tuberculosis infection. The research was very successful and continued through the summer after I had graduated. The combination of an exciting PhD project and a fantastic group of scientists confirmed my choice to continue at Surrey.

I am passionate about my area of research because it addresses some of the most pressing global challenges, such as sustainable energy production and environmental protection by reducing carbon emissions. Knowing that my work could contribute to a more sustainable future gives me a deep sense of purpose.

The support system here, from mentorship to research resources, is unparalleled, and it provides an ideal environment for me to thrive in my research and make meaningful contributions to the field.

I’ve been incredibly fortunate to have outstanding support throughout my PhD. My supervisors have been instrumental in guiding my research. Their organisation, approachability and constructive feedback have made a huge difference.

Surrey’s Centre for Vision, Speech and Signal Processing (CVSSP) is the number one department in the UK for Computer Vision. There was no doubt in my mind that amazing research is done here at the university and that's something I wanted to be a part of.

I wanted to learn more about telecommunications and find solutions to improve connectivity for people and businesses. Working towards a PhD allowed me to pursue this goal through research.

I ultimately chose the University of Surrey due to its unique strengths and offerings that align seamlessly with the requirements of my research: specialised expertise, interdisciplinary environment, and PATS facilities make it the ideal institution.
