I would advise students to take full advantage of the placement year with industrial practice. It’s a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience and build industry connections, which will be crucial for your future career.

Surrey’s Centre for Vision, Speech and Signal Processing (CVSSP) is the number one department in the UK for Computer Vision. There was no doubt in my mind that amazing research is done here at the university and that's something I wanted to be a part of.

The support services provided by the University for my placement were amazing and made the entire process – from sending off my CV to arriving in Texas – so much easier. I received advice and guidance at every step, which really boosted my confidence." 

My placement year helped me ultimately decide that I love the office environment and am passionate about sales and marketing. I feel confident that the skills I developed during my placement will assist me in getting a role in the future. 

Studying Criminology and Sociology has provided me with lots of opportunities to apply my knowledge from lectures in real-life situations and assignments. I've received a huge amount of support from my lecturers who speak engagingly about the topics they teach.

I really enjoyed using my Professional Training placement to not only gain an insight into working within the charity sector, but also to actually give back to my community.
