"I love learning about food and how it affects the body, different public health issues and the importance of my degree in industry. It’s also interesting to learn about food manufacturing and how crucial food hygiene and safety is. In second year, I was part of the nutrition society committee, which was a great experience. Now in my final year, I find I have slightly less time but there’s still loads to get involved in if you want to!

"Surrey’s campus is pretty; it doesn’t feel too busy but it also feels like there is lots going on!"

The best thing about living in University accommodation is meeting and learning to live with people who aren’t family – a very important lesson to take into your remaining years at University! Surrey’s campus is pretty; it doesn’t feel too busy but it also feels like there is lots going on! And Guildford is fairly small, but it feels safe and has many restaurants and shops you can explore, including some great cocktail bars which offer happy hour! It’s also fantastic being so close to London – taking the train there isn’t too expensive.

With the recent renovations to the Library, there are lots of quiet, modern spaces to sit and work, including some great group spaces for project work. Lakeside is also a fab, affordable coffee shop where you can sit and relax in during lunchtimes.

For my Professional Training placement, I was a student nutritionist at Unilever in Leatherhead. Throughout my time there, I developed many of my existing skills and gained some new ones. This was invaluable in helping me prepare for my future career. My role was to support the brand teams (marketing) with nutrition queries, particularly with leading recipe analysis work. I worked closely with the development chef, improving recipes to help influence people to make healthier choices. I also completed work for external companies, such as Public Health England.
