My research project
In Rooms of Falling Rain: Queer Domestic Space and Poetic FormMy project aims to bring phenomenology and queer theory together in order to contribute creatively and critically to a broader understanding of queer identity and its relationship with inhabited space. I aim to bring a new scrutiny to historic and contemporary queer domestic spaces and forge pathways in how we might engage with them through lyric poetry.
For the critical strand of the project, I focus on the work of Elizabeth Bishop, Adrienne Rich, and Thom Gunn, three queer poets whose radical forms of dwelling are reflected in their work. The creative strand of the project explores queer experience of domestic space through my own poetry, seeking to represent queer productions of selfhood with a specific emphasis on how this relates to bodily dwelling.
