Resilience and Wellbeing at Work: How organisations help people at work, collectively, to be wellRecent years have seen how mounting economic, health, and geopolitical crises profoundly impact the wellbeing of individuals and employees. Underpinning efforts to support well-being and resilience at work is an improved understanding of the relationship between individual and collective resilience and wellbeing. Inasmuch as individual well-being has a synergistic effect on organisations, it is also true, though less well studied, that collective wellbeing and resilience aggregates and flows to support improvements in individual resilience and wellbeing.
As the pace of change accelerates, organizations are prioritising resilience as a means of protecting employees, adapting to disruption and sustaining performance at individual and organisational level. Developing the culture and practices that promote both well-being and resilience, collectively, has become a pressing priority, one considered essential for sustaining performance and care for employees amidst ongoing uncertainty and adversity.
This project aims to understand the current state of well-being and resilience of employees in organisations, whatever their purpose. It seeks to understand the contextual factors and organisational strategies that most impact the wellbeing and resilience of employees. And it aims to identify strategies that strengthen workforce resilience. Beyond the workplace, the study also reflects on how workforce resilience might initiate a positive cascade to support societal wellbeing.
