Flexible Distributed Ledger Technolgies (DLT) for Internet of Vehicles (IoV) through Smart Contract.Summary:
As the Internet-of-Things (IoT) continues to evolve, transforming various facets of
our daily lives, its integration and management become increasingly crucial. From
vehicles communicating real-time for safety to immersive virtual reality experiences and
responsive urban infrastructures, the exponential growth and complexity of IoT demand
novel approaches to data management, security, and transaction authentication. One
of the most pressing challenges in the IoT landscape is the management and security of
the vast data streams generated by interconnected devices. These devices constantly
relay, process, and store data, necessitating efficient and secure mechanisms that go
beyond the capabilities of current networks, including the robust 5G infrastructure.
In this research, we propose a groundbreaking solution that leverages the capabilities
of ”smart contracts” in tandem with the secure architecture of blockchain technology.
Smart contracts—self-executing digital contracts encoded with preset terms—offer a
reliable mechanism to automate and authenticate massive inter-device transactions
inherent to IoT systems. Their deterministic nature ensures reduced errors, increased
efficiency, and a significant reduction in the need for intermediaries.
Blockchain technology, recognized for its immutable and decentralized structure, ensures
the integrity and authenticity of these smart contracts. The fusion of these two
technologies creates an environment where IoT devices can seamlessly interact, exchange
data, and update securely, all under a decentralized authority.
This PhD confirmation report seeks to explore the challenges and opportunities presented
by the convergence of IoT with blockchain and smart contracts. Through a deep
dive into current practices, case studies, and emerging innovations, the research aims
to lay a foundation for a more secure, transparent, and efficient digital IoT ecosystem,
spearheading the next frontier in digital integration and security.
Keywords: IoT, Blockchain, Smart Contracts.
