Biography
I qualified as a veterinary surgeon (BVSc) from the University of Pretoria in 1994. After qualifying I spent 6 years working in private small animal practice in South Africa. In 2000 I returned to the University of Pretoria where I furthered my studies while working as a lecturer in small animal internal medicine. In 2003 I obtained a BVSc(Hons) degree and in 2004 I qualified as a Veterinary Specialist in Small Animal Internal Medicine (MMedVet Med). In 2005 I was promoted to Senior Lecturer in small animal internal medicine. I spent 15 years lecturing at undergraduate and post-graduate levels at the University of Pretoria. During this time I was involved in several research projects, I authored and co-authored several journal articles as well as two small book chapters and I worked as a small animal veterinary specialist at the referral hospital at Onderstepoort where I was involved in clinical training of undergraduate and post graduate veterinary students. I attended many veterinary congresses, both in South Africa and abroad, and presented several lectures at many of these congresses. I successfully supervised two residents during their postgraduate research and studies for the MMedVet(Med). In 2016 I returned to small animal private practice as a specialist in small animal internal medicine before relocating to the United Kingdom in 2022 with my husband, two teens, two dogs and two cats. I joined the University of Surrey in September 2022 where I am currently involved in lecturing and clinical skills training of undergraduate veterinary students. I am passionate about teaching and have a special interest in facilitating clinical reasoning and teaching practical skills. My clinical interest is small animal internal medicine , especially emergency and critical care medicine of dogs and cats. In my free time I like to take walks in the Surrey woods with my family and the dogs and during holidays I love to spend time in the African bush.
