About
Biography
Jenny is a Lecturer in Voice at Guildford School of Acting at the University of Surrey, and teaches across many programmes including Acting, Musical Theatre, Actor Musicianship and Applied and Contemporary Theatre at Foundation, BA, and MA/MFA Level. Current subjects taught include Speech Skills (Practical Voice), Voice and Text (Applied Voice), Voice and Accent Coaching on Productions/Projects and Voice Maintenance.
Jenny is Chair of the Purple Parents and Carers Network at the University of Surrey which offers staff who are parents and/or carers, support, opportunities for networking, and feeds into Surrey’s work towards disability equity. She is also GSA Co-Champion for Disability and Neurodiversity with her Colleague Rachael Kerridge, and was pervious the GSA TEL or Technology Enhanced Learning Champion.
She completed the Masters in the Practice of Voice and Singing course at GSA in its pioneering year on which she then subsequently taught, including on subjects such as Voice and Singing Pedagogies and Vocal Anatomy and Physiology. She also has a Graduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching (GCLT) from the University of Surrey and is a Fellow of the HEA (FHEA) Higher Education Academy.
Jenny is a keen researcher and continues to explore new ideas in voice, singing, vocal anatomy, voice pedagogy, accents, dialects and teaching in industry. Her current interests lie in The Carer's Voice and 'making invisible voices, visible' by creating spaces for those voices to be heard. She leads and fascilitates the annual GSA Morag Morris Spoken Word Event for students outside of their studies.
As a Freelancer, Jenny works as a voice, singing, accent and dialect coach with her own private practice in the UK. She is also a Director, and most recently directed the play, A Bunch of Amateurs by Ian Hislop and Nick Newman, for ESPA at Ifield Barn, Sussex: their highest grossing show.
Her work as a Voice and Accent Coach on shows alongside Directors and MDs, has also taken her to work on community and professional projects both nationally and internationally. The current production Jenny is supporting, will be performing at the famous Minack Theatre, Cornwall.
As a Performer, Jenny most recently appeared in Bernstein's Mass at the Royal Festival Hall. She has played numerous roles and leads in a variety of productions, and is currently rehearsing the role of Sally Slaton for the Musical Parade for this coming June 2024.
As a singer/songwriter, Jenny continues to create music and works closely with Motion Audio Productions on new music projects for Film and TV.
Jenny was the Principal of her own Musical Theatre and Dance School, Dance Division for over 15 years. As Principal, she directed, produced and choreographed numerous shows and entered students for a multitude of examinations with Trinity College London (TCL), the International Dance Teacher's Association (IDTA), the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) and AQA. She is also a qualified Dance Teacher, and has Registered Teacher Status of the Royal Academy of Dance (RTS RAD) and is registered as an Associate Teacher of the International Dance Teacher's Association (IDTA).
Previous students and clients have trained and graduated from leading UK drama and music conservatoires and past students and graduates are frequently seen in theatre, film and TV as well as in performing arts education.
