Biography
Dr Gumeta obtained his PhD in Management Studies (Information Systems) from Cambridge Judge Business School in 2010, his Master’s degree (with distinction) in Analysis, Design and Management of Information Systems (ADMIS) from the London School of Economics and Political Science in 2002, and his Bachelor’s degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering from Monterrey Institute of Technology (ITESM, Mexico) in 1999.
Before joining Surrey, Dr Gumeta served as a lecturer in the College of Business Administration at Gyeongsang National University, South Korea from 2010 to 2012 and as a postgraduate reach volunteer with Friends International in Edinburgh, Scotland from 2009 to 2010. Previously, he worked as Deputy Manager for Process Evaluation at the Mexican Tax Administration Service from 2002 to 2005, Head of Department for Energy, Infrastructure and Environment at the Mexican Regulatory Improvement Commission (2000-2001), and Project Industrial Engineer at Coats North America (2000).
At SII-DUFE, Dr Gumeta has taught modules such as Project Management, E-business, Management Information Systems, Entrepreneurship in the Digital Domain, Entrepreneurship and Business Planning, Business Research Project, and Business Delivery Skills.
Career Philosophy
Dr Gumeta is passionate about teaching at the undergraduate level because at this stage young people can still be influenced to make a difference in the world. Dr Gumeta likes to challenge students by constantly asking simple yet fundamental questions that require critical thinking skills.
Teaching approach
Dr Gumeta’s takes a constructivist approach in his teaching, i.e., learning is an active, continuous process whereby the learner takes information from the environment and constructs personal interpretations and meaning. He has implemented Lego-based activities in the classroom to enhance students’ learning experience.
