Dr Graham Hawkes
About
Biography
Graham became Royal Academy Visiting Professor in Engineering at Surrey University in January 2021 for a period of 3 years working with Dr Michael Pekris as his Academic Champion. Graham’s focus for his Visiting Professorship is supporting the development of the inclusive skills of undergraduates to complement their technical skills ready for deployment in industry.
Within industry, Graham is Engineering Manager for the Energy Technology Department with responsibility for over 60 staff with specialism aerodynamics, loads and controls across the offshore energy sector. He is a Chartered Engineer, European Engineer and Fellow of the IMechE.
Graham has over 15 year’s experience in engineering consultancy following his doctorate in aerodynamic instrumentation at the University of Oxford. Alongside managing his department, Graham’s current area of interest covers wind farm aerodynamic performance and he has a leading role in R&D projects within the Carbon Trust’s Offshore Wind Accelerator and Floating Wind JIP associated with wind farm blockage effects, farm-to-farm wakes and floating wind energy yield, and has published a number of papers in this area. He has also advised investors and developers with regard to the energy yield impact of these effects for new wind farm developments and wind farm acquisitions.
