My research project
Developing a research-based blueprint for CAI trainingThe project addresses a current challenge in conference interpreter education: the absence of systematic training on computer-assisted interpreting (CAI). In the context of an ongoing "technological turn" (Fantinuoli 2018), the effective integration of CAI tools into the SI process may be regarded as the epitome of "skill of the future" for interpreters.
The problem is approached as educational design research (McKenney & Reeves 2018). Through the phases of analysis, iterative empirical cycles, and design, the project analyses challenges and opportunities in CAI, identifies the required skills and knowledge, and proposes recommendations for the development of training interventions based theory of instructional design for complex cognitive skills, i.e., the 4C/ID model (Van Merriënboer 1997).
