Biography
Filipe Worsdell is a Senior Lecturer within the Department of Strategy and International Business. He completed his doctorate at the Surrey Business School in 2019 after over two decades working within the European investment banking sector, culminating as CFO of a Portuguese banking conglomerate listed in London (LSE) and Lisbon (NYSE Euronext). Previously, as a Corporate Debt and Derivatives trader for a leading investment bank, Filipe conducted multinational business across three continents. Prior to his banking career, he served as a Commissioned Officer in the British Army.
With a Post Graduate Certificate of Teaching and Learning, as well as an HEA Fellow and CMBE, Filipe has been teaching at Surrey since 2019. His focus is to inform business students on issues relating to contemporary international business and FDI strategies. It is work that acknowledges the importance of top management structures, organisational strategy, individual business ethics (doing the right thing) and corporate governance (playing by the agreed rules within the business game. Filipe’s pedagogical interests lie in encouraging the next generation of business leaders to effectively tackle the challenges of international investment and global trade and to better understand the successes and failures of those that have gone before them. He is also a member of the University's Ethics Committee (Reviewer).
