Professor of Entrepreneurship

About

Biography

David Goss, formerly Head of Surrey Business School, is Professor of Entrepreneurship. His PhD, from the University of Kent, dealt with social relationships in small businesses. In 2005 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Linkoping, Sweden, where he has been a visiting professor since 1995. Before becoming Head of School he was Associate Dean (Research) in the Faculty of Management and Law at Surrey.

Research interests

My research focuses on the nature of social relationships in organizations, primarily from a micro-sociological perspective. I have a particular interest in smaller organizations and in entrepreneurship (which I define broadly) and, in particular, the role of emotions and ritual in shaping action. Previous work has examined issues of disability and illness in the workplace. My current work is examining the emotional dynamics of entrepreneurship; I also have a developing interest in the micro-sociology of corruption.

Teaching

I have taught a range of subjects in the organizational behaviour, HRM, entrepreneurship and research methods fields at UG, PG and doctoral levels and supervise a number of PhD and DBA students.
