Biography
Ashani is a Digital Learning Developer in Digital Learning within Surrey Institute of Education. She holds an MSc in Information Technology with a specialisation in eLearning and she is a Fellow in Advanced HE. She joined the University of Surrey in 2019. Before joining Surrey, Ashani worked as an eLearning engineer at a software company in Sri Lanka where she worked on several LMS projects, Augmented Reality (AR) projects and training AI chatbot models. She brings her industry experience as a software engineer to her current role in Digital Learning. She has been facilitating Surrey staff in designing and developing online courses. She has worked on building data analytics reports to help staff measure student engagement in SurreyLearn (VLE).
Infusing playful learning elements into digital content with the aim of enriching the student learning experience is one of her focal points. Ashani's pursuits extend to exploring the intersection of artificial intelligence and higher education and promoting sustainability in digital education.
Beyond work, Ashani actively practices a sustainable lifestyle with a commitment to 'going green'.
