The University of Surrey has been shortlisted for the coveted University of the Year title at the THE Awards 2024

The Times Higher Education’s (THE) annual awards celebrate the best of higher education in the UK and Ireland, with the University of the Year award 2024 honouring exceptional university performance during the 2022-23 academic year.

Surrey’s entry focuses on our excellence across research, teaching and student experience – and the strategic focus on improvement guided by our "Forward thinking. And doing" strategy during the judging year.

The 19 award categories cover all aspects of Higher Education. Surrey has also been shortlisted for Research Project of the Year: Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences for Professor Carrie Newlands’ work to tackle sexual misconduct in the surgical professions.

The winners across all the THE awards categories will be announced on Thursday 28 November at Birmingham’s International Conference Centre.

In 2024, it’s fair to say that higher education is going through a challenging period, but these awards are a constant reminder that we should never underestimate the drive and dedication of those who work in our universities to transform lives for the better.

Enthusiasm for these awards as a way to showcase those achievements remains undimmed, with more entries in our 20th year than ever before. Our sincere congratulations to all those shortlisted in such a competitive year – it really is an achievement to have reached this stage.
