Surrey University welcomes delegation from Manipal Academy of Higher Education
The University of Surrey recently hosted a delegation from Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), a prestigious private university located in Manipal within the Udupi district of Karnataka in India.
Recognised as an Institute of Eminence by the University Grants Commission, MAHE has a wide reach with campuses in Manipal, Mangalore, Bangalore and Jamshedpur, India, as well as global campuses in Dubai and Malaysia. The visit, which took place on 14 May 2024, aimed to explore new avenues for collaboration in teaching and research.
The MAHE delegation included Lt General (Dr) M D Venkatesh, Vice-Chancellor of the University, and Professor Karunakar Kotegar, Director of International Collaborations. They toured Surrey's Veterinary School, new Medical School and the Surrey Clinical Simulation Centre.
This visit builds upon a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the two institutions in January 2024. The MoU facilitates various academic exchanges, including student study tours, joint research projects and faculty mobility programmes. The future promises expanded partnerships that will include joint PhD supervision and faculty internships.
Dr Shelini Surendran, Associate Dean International at the University of Surrey, commented on the visit's significance:
"We were delighted to welcome our partners from MAHE. This visit paves the way for an even stronger collaboration in the future. International cooperation is crucial for progress in higher education, and we are committed to sharing knowledge and expertise across borders."
