Surrey Strengthens employability support for computer science students through new partnership with EDI careers

The University of Surrey’s Computer Science programmes, known for their high graduate employability rates, have taken a significant step forward in further supporting students' career development.

A new partnership with EDI Careers: Everything Diversity and Inclusion aims to boost employability in the fields of Cyber Security and Data Science by providing students with direct industry involvement through specialised sessions.

Stella Kazamia, Director of Employability, highlights the importance of this partnership:

"We are thrilled to see 95 per cent of our computer science graduates moving straight into work or further education, which reflects our commitment to delivering degree programmes that align with industry needs. Our MSc in Data Science and MSc in Cyber Security are specifically designed to equip students with both cutting-edge knowledge and practical skills. Through our partnership with Everything D&I, we’re adding a valuable layer of industry exposure, including hands-on workshops. This collaboration will further enhance Surrey's reputation for producing highly employable graduates ready to thrive in the tech industry."

The collaboration with EDI Careers will provide students with essential placement opportunities, particularly at MSc level. These placements offer international students the chance to apply their existing knowledge in real-world settings, either in the UK or abroad.

I was so inspired by the authenticity of the speakers.

The year-long work experience is an invaluable asset, positioning students competitively in the UK job market, where practical industry experience is a significant advantage.

Students have expressed their enthusiasm for the new initiatives, with some noting how much they gained from the sessions:

"I was so inspired by the authenticity of the speakers," said one student, while another commented, "This session has really given me lots to think about in Cyber and Data." Other students expressed their excitement about the opportunities, with one stating, "I am so excited and grateful for a place on the Future Leaders Program."

The EDI Careers team is equally excited about the partnership. Frances Trought (founder) and Carol Parillon (COO) said:

"We are excited for the collaboration between Everything D&I and the University of Surrey, enabling us to bring industry into the classroom and support students in kick-starting their careers by learning from professionals."

This partnership marks a new chapter in the University of Surrey’s efforts to ensure that its students graduate not only with strong academic knowledge but also with the practical skills and industry connections needed to succeed in the competitive fields of Cyber Security and Data Science.
