Surrey Leaders Masterclass

The first cohort of Surrey Leaders met on 4 October for an exclusive Masterclass.

Surrey Leaders is an invite only network aimed at reconnecting highly successful alumni, and we were delighted to welcome the group back to campus for our first Surrey Leaders Masterclass – an exciting weekend learning, sharing insights and celebrating Surrey.

I’m still feeling honoured to be part of this first cohort of Surrey Leaders as we embark on this new (ad)venture together.

Having the chance to step back from it all and being challenged to think about the bigger picture this weekend was both invigorating and inspiring. I really enjoyed connecting with peers from such a variety of different degrees and career paths.
Rebecca Middleton, Surrey Leader and Director at DTZ Investors UK

The weekend began with tours of the Engineering Design Centre, Institute for People Centred A.I., the School of Medicine and the School of Veterinary Medicine, highlighting Surrey’s innovations and exciting methods of teaching.

Returning to the University of Surrey this past weekend for the first-ever Surrey Leaders event was a surreal moment. It felt like turning back the clocks to my time at Surrey Business School from 2015 to 2018. Witnessing the pioneering research at the new institutes of medicine, AI, and sustainability was truly inspiring. I am confident we will see more groundbreaking work very soon. Alberto Verme, Surrey Leader and Founder of AAVL Sports Management Ltd

On the second day the action moved to the De Vere’s Horsley Estate, home of Surrey’s MBA for a packed agenda of talks, workshops and networking.  We were delighted to be joined by Surrey alumni Judith Batchelar OBE, Professor Tazeeb Rajwani who inspired and motivated the group, sharing their career highlights and a wealth of knowledge. The day culminated in an extraordinary conversation with Patrick Degg, YS Chi and our President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Max Lu, we are honoured they could join us.

Surrey Leaders is an exciting new chapter in how the university engages and supports its alumni and we plan to invite the next cohort to join the network later this year.

It was such a fun and energising experience to see this group and I can’t wait to see the next cohorts develop. YS Chi
