The seventh edition of the Centre for Translation Studies’ Careers Fair
The seventh edition of the Centre for Translation Studies’ Careers Fair for our MA in Translation and Interpreting students took place on the 3rd of May 2023 on campus at the University of Surrey
We were very pleased to host another successful face-to-face event, welcoming familiar industry colleagues as well as greeting some new faces on their first visit to the Centre for Translation Studies (CTS).
We had a great line-up of language service providers (LSPs) representing global, regional and local companies, and offering a wide range of language services. They provided excellent job and networking opportunities for our MA students and collectively gave a great insight into the landscape of services and roles available in the modern language services industry. Thank you Surrey Translation Bureau, Mother Tongue, Hogarth Worldwide, Oncall Language Services, Wordbank, Alpha CRC, Welocalize, Acolad Group, Comms Multilingual Ltd and TransPerfect for the informative, engaging and fun afternoon and for providing our students with a first class experience of engaging with their potential future employers.
The presentations given by visiting LSPs are key to helping students understand the individual businesses, the place of each business within the language services industry, and the types of roles available to students after graduation.
A special mention also goes to three of our students, Hannah Cauldwell, Anna Pakes, Jennissa Thomas, Xing Jijing (pictured above) who delivered an excellent presentation about CTS postgraduate degrees and the training provided by our programmes.
The Careers Fair is part of the CTS employability programme designed to ensure that our MA students acquire not only academic, subject-specific and professional skills, but are prepared for the workplace in terms of business knowledge, positive attitudes, resourcefulness and adaptability. Our students come to us with the drive and passion to succeed; our aim is to ensure they have every opportunity to turn that drive into a fulfilling career.
