Royal Society report references CoGDeV lab
The Royal Society have published the Mathematical Futures report
https://royalsociety.org/news/2024/09/royal-society-calls-for-radical-r…;
The report is interesting and progressive, and we are delighted that the importance of spatial reasoning for mathematics is recognised in the document, referencing our spatial reasoning policy brief: https://www.surrey.ac.uk/sites/default/files/2023-12/spatial-reasoning-for-policy-makers.pdf
Here is a quote from the document:
In the future, there should be greater emphasis on conceptual understanding and a stronger focus on spatial reasoning, which plays a key role in the later development of number, measure, data and geometry skills.
The Royal Society report recommends that spatial reasoning is strengthened in curricula:
Review the early years and primary curriculum to provide strong foundations, strengthening key areas such as spatial reasoning.
