The event “A turbulent decade: revisiting the legacy of Taiwan's Sunflower Movement and Hong Kong's Umbrella Movement” was co-organised with the University of Nottingham’s Taiwan Research Hub and attended by over 50 audience members.

Leading social movement activists and academics from Hong Kong and Taiwan reflected on the two movements, examined what happened since 2014 and provided timely insights into future developments in the region.

The discussion covered connections between the Sunflower Movement and previous social movements in Taiwan in the context of Cross-Strait relations. Speakers furthermore explored the links between the Sunflower and Umbrella Movements, mutual recognition and learning as well as the role of overseas Taiwanese and Hongkonger communities in social movements.
