Prestigious award introduced by Napoleon I awarded to Surrey vaccinologist

Professor Christine Rollier has been awarded a Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Palmes Académiques, a 200-year-old award introduced by Napoleon I, recognising the significant contributions of French academics to the education and research sector.

Appointed by decree of the French Prime Minister, on the proposal of the Minister of National Education, Professor Rollier from the University of Surrey received this prestigious award at a ceremony held at the Institut Français au Royaume-Uni in London, presented by internationally recognised scientist and House of Lords peer, Professor Lord Lionel Tarassenko.

An eminent vaccinologist, Professor Rollier has dedicated her professional career to the field. While at the University of Oxford, she led early clinical studies of new and improved vaccines against bacterial and infectious diseases affecting children, including the development of vaccines against bacterial infections such as capsular group B meningococcus, plague, Q fever, and gonorrhoea. Her current work includes the improvement of vaccines for older adults, as well as the development of novel vaccines against chikungunya, Zika virus, Escherichia coli, and Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV).
