Nursing and Veterinary Sciences ranked top 75 in the world

Nursing and Veterinary Sciences at the University of Surrey have been ranked top 10 in the UK and top 75 in the world, by the ShanghaiRanking Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU).

The ShanghaiRanking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2020 places the University of Surrey top 10 in the UK for both Nursing and Veterinary Sciences. Surrey also ranked 5th in the world for Hospitality and Tourism.

More than 1,600 universities across 83 different countries were included in the rankings, which covered 54 subjects across the disciplines of Engineering, Life Sciences, Medical Sciences, Natural Sciences and Social Sciences. Ranking factors included research productivity and quality, extent of international collaboration and academic awards.

Professor Melaine Coward, Head of the School of Health Sciences, commented:

"This ranking reflects the innovation, research and passion of our staff within the School of Health Sciences. Through our teaching and research, we’re creating caring healthcare professionals, ready to meet the needs of their patients and influence policy change.”

Professor Chris Proudman, Head of the School of Veterinary Medicine, added:

"This ranking is a great reflection of the excellent research being performed in the School of Veterinary Medicine. We recognise that veterinary scientists have important roles to play in addressing some of the major challenges that the world faces and we’re preparing our students to meet these head-on."

Our nursing courses are also ranked top 5 in the UK by the Complete University Guide 2021 and The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2020. While our veterinary medicine courses are ranked top 10 in the UK by the Complete University Guide 2021.
