Now in its 13th edition, Eric held a launch for the book on campus in the Lakeside Restaurant and was joined by University colleagues, fellow economists and students he has mentored.

Covering the latest economic topics, such as the global implications of war, the effects of macro-inflation and the role of AI in the labour market, Economics provides a thorough and insightful exploration that fosters critical thinking and informed economic decision-making.

For over 40 years, David Begg's Economics textbook has been the foundational text for Principles of Economics courses across Europe. The book is originally based on the textbook by Rudiger Dornbusch and Stanley Fischer. Over time it has been translated into many languages Greek,Italian,Chinese and others.

This new edition supports students’ understanding of economics by blending foundational principles with contemporary issues and applications.

Talking to the assembled group at lunch, Eric commented:

“Writing a textbook has brought me closer to the classroom at Surrey and the Surrey Economics team. It incorporated ideas and concepts I have discussed with you, my colleagues and students over the years. I purposefully expanded the global footprint of the book and also redoubled the focus on data for problem solving to help students with disabilities better connect theory with real world applications. The first-hand knowledge of what students find challenging and the knowledge that I have to keep the attention of every student in a digital age informed every word I wrote."
