It’s the most wonderful ‘rhyme’ of the year

Congratulations to MA Creative Writing student Sharron Green, for winning this year’s competition.

Judging all of the poems received, Dr Paul Vlitos said: “What I enjoyed most in Christmas Countdown was the careful modulation of mood, with the frustrations and occasional panics of the run-up to Christmas (especially in the era of Covid-19) interwoven with flashes of seasonal good-will and magic.

“The poem was also striking in the attention paid to the language itself – the appropriately jingling metre of the lines, the deftly unobtrusive rhymes, the delight in the sound of the words and the eye for a striking phrase. This was a very confident and memorable seasonal poem indeed!”
