Introducing Dr Mala Sharma to the School of Law

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Mala as a Lecturer in Law at the School of Law. With a distinguished background in academia and legal practice, Mala brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our institution. 

Dr Mala Sharma

Before joining Surrey, Mala served as the Course Director of Postgraduate Law (Practice Focus) at a London-based University. During her tenure, she played a key role in the development and launch of an innovative LLM programme focused on legal practice and SQE preparation, showcasing her leadership and vision in legal education.

Mala's academic journey is marked by her completion of a PhD research project on reforming the investor-state arbitration system, supported by a scholarship from the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Surrey. Her scholarly achievements were recognised with awards such as the Law School Postgraduate Researcher of the Year Award and nominations for the Vice-Chancellor's Research Excellence Award. 

Mala's research has been published in the Journal of World Investment and Trade, Transnational Dispute Management, Chinese Journal of Global Governance, and the Journal of International Ombudsman Association. Her work has been cited by the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law Secretariat, highlighting its impact and relevance on a global scale. 

Mala holds an LLM from the London School of Economics and a masters degree in business law from National Law School of India University. Prior to embarking on her academic career, she worked in law firms in UK and India, handling a variety of international commercial arbitrations. Mala is a qualified Advocate in India and is also a (non-practising) solicitor of the Senior Courts of England and Wales.
