Centre for Translation Studies Careers Fair 2022

In early May, the sixth edition of the Centre for Translation Studies’ Careers fair for MA in Translation and Interpreting students took place on campus at the University of Surrey.

We were very pleased to be able to return to our traditional face-to-face format for the event after two years of online careers fairs, finally welcoming back familiar industry colleagues as well as greeting some new faces on their first visit to the Centre for Translation Studies (CTS).

A total of eight language service providers (LSPs) attended this year’s fair representing global, regional and local companies, and offering a wide range of language services. Our sincere thanks go to Surrey Translation Bureau, Mother Tongue, Hogarth Worldwide, Morningside/Questel, Oncall Interpreters and Translators, Wordbank, Transcom Global and Alpha for attending and for providing our students with a first class experience of engaging with their potential future employers. The presentations given by visiting LSPs are key to helping students understand the individual businesses, the place of each business within the language services industry, and the types of roles available to them after graduation.

A special mention also goes to three of our students, Martina Castelli, Abi Rodrigues Pompeu and Ioana Meta (pictured above) who delivered an excellent presentation about CTS postgraduate degrees and the training provided by our programmes.

The Careers Fair is part of the CTS employability programme designed to ensure that our MA students acquire not only academic, subject-specific and professional skills, but are prepared for the workplace in terms of business knowledge, positive attitudes, resourcefulness and adaptability. Our students come to us with the drive and passion to succeed; our aim is to ensure they have every opportunity to turn that drive into a fulfilling career.
