PhD programme in Britain and Europe

Applications are invited for a three-year PhD studentship. The studentship will start on January 2024.

About

The successful applicant will be part of a lively and active community of PhD students and academic staff. We consider doctoral students to be junior academics or researchers, and an integral part of the Department. PhD students will have access to a well-equipped working space.

Project themes

Research in the department covers a wide range of topics in areas such as comparative politics, international studies, and parties and elections among other.

A list of available project topics can be found here: https://www.surrey.ac.uk/centre-britain-and-europe/research

It is essential that candidates discuss their proposal/plans with their intended supervisor(s), prior to writing their proposal and submitting an application. The department can only consider proposals in areas in which we have expertise to supervise a topic.

Eligibility criteria

Open to candidates who pay UK/home rate fees. See UKCISA for further information.

First-class degree or high upper second degree/or equivalent or distinction in Masters. For non-UK based courses an English requirement of 6.5 or above (or equivalent) with 6.0 in each individual category.
