Surrey/ICE Scholarship 2024 entry
We are offering a bursary of £1,950 every year, with salaried training in industry. This combination of industrial training and academic study will enhance your career potential.
About
This scheme is a collaboration between the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), our University and a range of leading companies in the civil engineering industry. It is open to many suitable students every year.
We match successful applicants with a suitable company mid-way through their first year. The company provides practical training throughout their course and will fund the scholarship. Students spend the summer vacation after each academic year doing paid training.
Benefits
The main benefits of this scholarship are:
- A bursary worth £1,950 with salaried training in each year of study
- The chance to integrate industrial training into academic study
- A fast-track route to employment upon graduation and chartered engineer status.
Student experiences
Hear from Vanessa Burton, who was accepted onto the scheme that kickstarted her journey from civil engineering undergraduate at Surrey to Assistant Geotechnical Engineer at Mott MacDonald.
Ruth Carlson
"I was part of the Surrey ICE Scholarship scheme. This meant that at the time of joining Mott MacDonald as a graduate civil engineer, I’d already had 16 months of experience there. Without that scheme and the links Surrey has with industry, I don’t think I’d be sitting in this job today!"
Anna Toms
"One of the main reasons I chose to study at Surrey was the Surrey/ICE Scholarship scheme.... I thought this was a great opportunity to get first-hand experience with a company early on in my degree, which I didn’t see being offered by other universities."
Abigail Vine
"As well as enabling me to gain a vast amount of technical knowledge, my placement also gave me a valuable insight into the way the construction industry operates."
