Leadership in Sustainability scholarships 2025 entry

The scholarship is awarded as an accommodation fee waiver of £2,000 in the first year of study only. Students living outside of University accommodation will be offered this as a cash award. It is open to offer-holders for Bachelor and Masters programmes in sustainability.

About

This scholarship is available to those with offers for the BSc in Environment and Sustainability Programme or the MSc in Sustainability Development, MSc in Sustainable Energy, or MSc in Corporate Environmental Management.

Applicants for the scholarship will be expected to have already demonstrated leadership in sustainability. Examples of leadership in sustainability might include:

Volunteering for sustainability-related causes
Starting a sustainability-focused student group or society
Creating a sustainability-focused company or non-profit organization
Receiving an award for sustainability efforts
Fundraising for an environmental charity or sustainability cause.

The scholarship will be awarded based on the leadership you’ve demonstrated.

Eligibility criteria

Applicants must:

Hold an offer to study a full-time bachelors or master’s degree programme in one of the courses listed
Agree to make at least two presentations in secondary schools as part of the University of Surrey Green Careers Workshop Programme, where you will help inspire future students about sustainability leadership and action.

The scholarship is application based. You will need to:

Outline why would you like to study this course
Provide an example of how you've helped promote sustainability or made a positive impact on the environment (and include details of someone who can provide a reference about this).

There are two deadlines:

Friday 11 April – for offer-holders on the BSc in Environment and Sustainability
Friday 23 May – for offer-holders on one of the MSc programmes.

You must have an offer from the University to complete the scholarship application form. Applications without a valid Student ID and offer will not be assessed.

Successful applicants will be contacted within two weeks of the application deadline.
