Find out about the different support the University offers.
Non-medical helpers
The University of Surrey can provide the following non-medical help that was previously funded under the DSA:
- Practical support assistant
- Library support assistant
- Reader
- Scribe
- Workshop/laboratory assistant
- Examination support worker
- Note taker
- Specialist transcription service.
The University provides the following band 4 non-medical support either in person or via remote delivery: University of Surrey - NMH Rates (PDF).
The University of Surrey does not provide any other non-medical help.
Lecture capture
Since the start of the lockdown in March 2020, the University of Surrey has captured all lectures as standard.
For academic year 2020/21, all lectures will be available as recordings whilst smaller teaching sessions such as seminars, practicals and labs, will be delivered face-to-face on campus. Alternative arrangements will be made for students who are unable to attend.
Accommodation
If you have specific accommodation requirements you should contact Disability and Neurodiversity before applying for accommodation.
We can support students to remain in campus accommodation for future years of their study.
Assistive technology
All computers in the Library have access to the following assistive software:
- SS Overlay
- Mind Genius 2018
- Grammarly Plug-in for MS Word
- Read & Write Gold 10
- Inspiration 9.
Students at the University can download Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus for free.
There are a limited number of digital voice recorders that can be loaned out to students on a long-term basis. Priority is given to students who are not DSA eligible.
Library
The University library includes the following support services:
- Short-term laptop loans (up to four hours)
- Bookable group study rooms
- Extended loans for materials
- Materials can be sourced and provided in alternative formats
- Fetch and collect service
- Designated silent study areas.
