Monday 25 February 2008
Leading associative marketing and sponsorship agency brandRapport has been appointed by the University of Surrey to develop a sponsorship strategy for the university’s new Surrey Centre for Sport – a magnificent new £33 million sports complex due for completion by the end of 2009. brandRapport will be carrying out an audit of the new facilities and identifying the various sponsorship opportunities for major companies and brands looking to become involved with the new sports centre.
The development of the Surrey Centre for Sport is a unique opportunity for the University of Surrey to create a world-class sporting facility in Guildford. The vision is to create a high quality sports complex that will benefit students, the local community and also provide a location for training and competition at a regional level as well as a training base for major sporting events such as the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. It will be one of the most advanced sports complexes in higher education in Europe and will include a 50m swimming pool (the only such facility in Surrey and one of only six in the South of England).
Commenting on the appointment, Greg Melly, Director of Corporate Services at the University of Surrey said, "We were extremely impressed with brandRapport’s knowledge of the sponsorship market and their understanding of the needs of major companies. This will be invaluable as we seek to attract leading brands to invest in the new Surrey Centre for Sport over the coming months".
brandRapport Director, Nigel Currie commented, "It is very exciting for the agency to be working on a project close to our offices and which will have a major impact on the local community. The new Surrey Centre for Sport will provide top quality sporting facilities which are desperately needed in the area and give major companies the opportunity to develop a close association with the centre as well as the University of Surrey.
