Borrowing, Renewing & Returning Items

    Borrowing Information

• You can borrow items using the self-service kiosks on the Library ground level and Learning Centre levels 1 & 2
• You must have a valid campus card to borrow any item
• You are responsible for all items borrowed on your campus card and for making sure items are returned or renewed on time
• You cannot issue items on someone else’s campus card unless written authorisation is provided
• You can borrow heavily demanded stock from the short loan collection situated on Library level 1
• Use the Support Hub to borrow interlibrary loans and requested theses up until 15 minutes before the end of staffed opening times

In addition, you may borrow an Electronic Voting Handset for a whole semester.

    Renewing items

• You may renew items at the self-service kiosks in the Library or via My Account on the library catalogue, provided they are not reserved by another reader
• Reserved items cannot be renewed and must be returned
• Your account will be blocked when you have an overdue reserved item. No further borrowing or renewing of loaned items may occur until the overdue reserved item is returned
• Renewing overdue items will incur fines which must be paid within 10 weeks
• You cannot renew items if you have a fine of £30 or more, or one that has been unpaid for 10 weeks
• Interlibrary loans may be renewed by emailing ill@surrey.ac.uk . There is a charge for this service

    Renewal methods

• Via My Account on the library catalogue (your URN and PIN required). Your PIN is obtainable from the Support Hub or by emailing library-enquiries@surrey.ac.uk
• By telephone using the 24 hour automated telephone renewal service 01483 689235 (your URN and PIN required)
• By post (confirmation given only on request)        

    Returning items

• You can return items at the self-return machine on Learning Centre level 1. If there is a problem, please take items to the Support Hub
• When the Library is closed, you can return items in the white Returns box in the Learning Centre foyer. Items will be discharged from the borrower’s record when the library next opens
• You are responsible for any fines owing on overdue items

    Non-return of items

• Failure to return items will lead to a library charge for replacements costs, which includes an administration charge and overdue fines
• You are responsible for replacing lost and damaged items and for paying all charges incurred
• You are responsible for ensuring all items are returned and all charges are paid before leaving the University
• Non-returned items and unpaid charges count as debts to the University
