Nursing Studies (Registered Nurse Children's Nursing) BSc (Hons)Why I chose Surrey
I’ve always wanted to work with children. I pursued a couple of different jobs after college, but as time went on my priorities changed and I decided I'd rather have a career that helped people directly. That's when I found the children's nursing course at Surrey.

My clinical placements
I’ve been on a variety of clinical placements, including hospital wards, an additional needs school, a children’s hospice and out in the wider community. I enjoy being able to apply the theory we learn at university in a professional environment, and like being a useful part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team. Seeing the joy on the face of a girl with a severe disability when she was in the hydrotherapy pool at the children’s hospice is one of my best memories.
My career and development
When I graduate, I want to consolidate my learning at a general hospital before identifying an area to specialise in. Long-term, I think I'd like to work with children with disabilities.
Working in healthcare gives you a better understanding of the big picture and what’s important in life. I’ve seen some remarkable things and met some remarkable people, and feel I'm becoming a better person because of it.
